Springfield Kennels Features

The kennels were originally designed for the kennel owner’s top show dogs – not as a commercial operation.

So there are a number of things that make Springfield Kennels special

Testimonials

My Golden Retriever ‘Buddy’ is 13 years old and he has been going to Springfield Kennels since he was a puppy.

When we pull up in the driveway, he jumps out of the van and runs right down to the kennel – he knows the way. When we pick him up, he is happy to see us and sleeps for 2 to 3 days but is fine and usually has lost a few pounds (they make sure he has exercise and don’t over feed him). I would not hesitate to recommend Springfield Kennels to any of my friends for their dogs - and have done so.

A secluded spot, and as pretty as a park. The dogs are excited to get there and happy and tired when coming home – they’ve been busy!

We were referred to Springfield Kennels by a friend of ours and we feel it is the best kennel in the Calgary area. We always feel comfortable and secure having our dog Logan board there. Logan is very athletic and requires a lot of exercise. He always jumps out of the car with excitement upon arrival, and comes home in excellent spirits.

I first heard of Russ through word-of-mouth; specifically from an employee of the Moose Jaw SPCA when I was inquiring about investing in the services of a canine behaviourist. My first phone inquiry was received by his very professional sounding voice message that inspired me to leave a detailed message about my dog. My phone call was returned promptly and I was pleased that Russ had researched my rare breed prior to contacting me. After speaking long distance (he paid) for over one hour Russ suggested he come out to my home in Moose Jaw for an assessment.

As a trainer, Russ is hard working and highly committed to his craft. His technical proficiency in training is immediately recognized by everyone that meets Russ. He has obviously researched every training system in depth and is able to employ or dismiss these methods as related to each dog as an individual. He recognises that both people and dogs can learn and seems driven to educate.

I know that Russ is dedicated to reducing illegal drugs in our community. He has donated much of his time and travelling expenses to present to schools. Persons unable to pay his fees have received free drug detection services when children are at risk.

As a kennel technician, Shaun had the responsibility of caring for the day to day necessities of the animals in our shelter. However, her affection for the canine species was immediately apparent in the way she advocated for each and every dog in our care.

As a behaviour specialist Shaun has a unique perspective on shelter animals. Often, when faced with particular issues relating to dog behaviour, Shaun could be counted on to share her knowledge and experience. To this end, she undertook to initiate and enhance the temperament testing procedures.

When away from the shelter, Shaun would often donate her time and labour, as a professional groomer, to many of the neglected shelter animals.

It is clear that Shaun has developed and maintained an avid interest in canine related issues.

I am the owner of a three and a half year old Rottweiler named Shorty. When she turned two she began to have a serious aggression problem. No one could enter or exit my house, she would lunge at people while we were on walks, and she began to show dominance over me and my family.

I took Shorty to three different trainers and was told that it was hopeless and that she should be euthanized. To me, that was unacceptable. I came across Russ Rathy's business card at the Moose Jaw Humane Society where I am employed. I called him and set up an appointment and he came to Moose Jaw to see me.

After talking with Russ for over an hour, and reading the information that he brought for me, I knew that there was hope for Shorty. We started working with her and seen immediate progress. Now I can have as many people over as I want, I can walk her without a prong collar or muzzle, and I can trust leaving her with my family while I'm gone.

Russ Rathy's techniques and professionalism are outstanding. He didn't just train her for me, he showed me how to train her. He didn't simply tell me I had a problem, he told me why and how to correct it. He is determined to see the best from the dog and the owner. He truly cares and takes pride in what he does.

I would highly recommend Russ Rathy to anyone who wants to see results and improvement in their dogs as he has proven to me to be remarkably talented.

Sincerely,
Crystal Gillies
